Georgia O’Keefe was a prominent American artist in the early 20th century. Her semi-abstract New York and later New Mexico compositions were heavily influential in the art world and carry a connection to the culture and land that little other art has done. O’Keefe bought a ranch near Abiquiu, NM named Ghost Ranch and when she passed away the ranch continued on and remains one of the most beautiful areas in New Mexico. This mountain Cerro Perdernal was one she painted numerous times as viewed from the ranch t is one of the most prominent landscape features in the area.

Bill Williams Wildlife Refuge is a unique place in the western Arizona. It acts as the confluence of the Bill Williams and Colorado rivers. It is a riparian area in a very desolate dry Mojave desert. The unique cottonwood and willow trees grow here along with occasional saguaros and chollas. When the area gets extremely rare heavy summer AND winter rainy seasons it will burst with flowers – poppies, lupine, daisies, etc. It is an unexpected delight to drive into the area expecting hard hot rocks and dried up foliage and seeing this!
